Interesting one this. The client was very fond of her second dining room table, but for most of the year it was simply getting in the way. She wanted to have the option of a coffee table but to be able to convert it back to a dining room table for larger dinner parties. I wasn’t sure whether this would work, but when I saw the space and the table itself it was more obvious. After quite a lot of research and experimentation I ended up with the following solution: Cut down table legs. Fix 1 x 8mm threaded rod coupler into the centre of each table leg with resin (the table end), to the remaining table leg fit an 8mm ‘Easydrive woodscrew to machine thread’. I also sourced threaded stem adjustable furniture feet, also 8mm, so that the coffee table has a neat feet, it doesn’t rock. It also helps keep the threaded rod coupler clean for the next conversion back to a full-size table.
One very happy client!
