Introduction
Woodworks Learn is our programme of classes open to everyone. You may have no experience; you may have skills and experience but no space; whatever this programme is flexible enough to be tailored to your needs.
At Woodworks Learn you can learn new skills, developing existing ones or discover a talent you never knew you had. Perhaps you’re fed up with paying to get people to do the simplest jobs or you just want to gain confidence to take on these jobs yourself. Woodworks Learn is intended to equip (equipequips) you with woodworking skills for whatever you project or purpose you have in mind. Woodwork is an ancient and endlessly fascinating craft, deeply satisfying, at times challenging but just wonderful – we learn all the time!

Our space
Woodworks is spread across two floors. Downstairs is a well-equipped workshop, which is also our professional making space. There is a good selection of hand tools, portable electric tools and larger machinery including a planer thicknesser, bandsaw, scroll saw. There are six bench spaces to provide flexibility for the small group sessions.
Upstairs is the studio space which has a library of woodwork and related books for reference use. There is also a kitchen area, microwave and fridge with tea and decent coffee making facilities. There are male and female toilets.
Our programme
Shared Classes: three hours, maximum of five people per session. You will be able to learn and work at your own pace alongside friendly, like-minded people. Typically, you will come with an idea of what you want to learn and achieve – which you can discuss in advance with Hugh. There will always be a tutor available to advise, show you what to do and to get help from. To get the most from this programme we recommend a minimum of three sessions.
One-to-one classes: (1.15 hours) Again these are flexible, tailored to your needs. This is a great place to start a project to then continue in the group classes. Additionally you may wish to learn specific new skills, you may want advice on a project, or you may wish to set up a home workshop / toolkit but haven’t a clue where to start(!)
Bespoke Courses: We offer bespoke one-off group classes. For example:
– A life event celebration, for example a birthday – book a half day or whole day with a wide variety of possible activities. Refreshments provided and lunch available from local businesses.
or
– A team development session: a bespoke programme for a half day or full day. Get a group going on a team challenge (eg build a shed, bench or …) or individual activity (eg make a chopping board, a box). Refreshments provided and lunch available from local businesses.
We can tailor the programme for specific outcomes. Hugh is a very experienced teacher, facilitator and trainer.

Health and Safety
Health and safety in the workshop is a top priority. Every course member will be given a safety briefing and workshop orientation. With proper use, all the equipment can be used safely and tutors will always show you how. Much of it is about common sense, concentration and avoiding distraction!
If you have additional needs please do call to discuss how we can help meet them.
